22 Nov HLAC Heroes 2020 – Marlene Field
We’re recognising Marlene Field from Cardiff HammondCare At Home for being a HLAC Hero. This incredible community care worker walked over 6kms to visit a palliative client.
Marlene’s car broke down on the way to visit her client and rather than cancelling the appointment, she set off on foot! Despite initially thinking it’s just around the corner, Marlene realised it was much further but still did not cancel and eventually arrived at the clients house 40 minutes later. During her journey, she also rescued two dogs from running onto a busy road!
Marlene has been surprised by the publicity about her story, and when asked by Aged Care Insight said she didn’t do it for a “pat on the back” but because “this lady was dying, and we put the client first”.
And while Marlene remarkably walked 6kms to ensure support reached a palliative client, she herself was supported by other members of the Cardiff HammondCare At Home team – a reminder that care is a team effort!
Thank you Marlene for being a selfless aged care worker and HLAC Hero!
