21 Mar HEALTH ALERT! Potential Salmonella Risk
Victoria based egg producer Bridgewater Poultry is recalling five of their products from stores due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected eggs are sold in Woolworths, Coles as well as some independent grocery retailers across Australia.
Eggs sold under the titles of Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 600g, 700g and 800g varieties and Woolworths 12 Cage Free Eggs 700g are at risk. If you have these eggs it is advised that you do not discard them into compost or feed them to pets/livestock.
If you believe you have consumed contaminated eggs the symptoms caused by the strain Salmonella Enteritidi are;
- abdominal pain
- diarrhoea
- fever
- headaches
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- vomiting
These symptoms generally manifest within 72hrs of consuming contaminated food and typically last around a week. Due to a risk of dehydration these symptoms are more serious for both young children and the elderly.
